As a two teacher family fortunate enough to have summers off, we have spent 7 months in Europe over the last 14 years. The most important trick we have learned is to start with finding a deal on airfare. This allows the largest chunk of a budget to start at a reasonable place. Our trips started with tours, sites, and lots of jumping around. With our growing children, we have found planning long stays in smaller gems and focusing on outdoor activities has brought us the most joy.
